Product Detail

Spiral wound gaskets are made from a v-shaped metal tape that is wound into a spiral with a soft filler material. The metal tape lends the gasket flexibility and an exceptional memory while the soft filler guarantees sealing qualities.

This combination of materials make the spiral wound gasket ideal for sealing liquids at high temperatures, up to 1000ºC, and with high pressure, up to 250 bar. They are also functional at varying temperatures and even at cryogenic temperatures. Depending upon the use, these gaskets can be produced with inner and outer stabilizer rings.

  • The flanges designed for the spiral wound gaskets must have rough surfaces in order for the gasket not to slip.

Installing these gasket is a very simple task, although some care must be taken when handling large dimensión gaskets with no stabilizer rings.

Filler materials: PTFE · GRAPHIT · MICA · CERAMIC FIBER

We recommend the use of graphite filler for most applications, and PTFE for chemical resistance and conformity with food stuffs or potable water. For temperatures over 550ºC, mica or ceramic fiber are the recomended materials.

Working temperatures:                  PTFE: From -200 ºC to +260 ºC

Types of spiral wound gaskets:

Class R/S

Gaskets with no retaining rings, commonly used in male/female flanges.

Class GR/CR/CC/CG/SR

Similar to R/S gaskets but with an external retaining ring that stabilizes the gasket and makes fitting easier. The retaining ring also prevents the filler material from dislocating, especially when the filler is PTFE.

The rataining ring can be manufactured in carbon steel, monel, titanium, inconel or most stainless steels (304, 304L, 316L, 316Ti, 321

Class RI/RIR/CCR/IR/SI

Spiral wound gaskets similar to R/S, but with an internal retaining ring which protects the gasket from an excess of compression. The ring also acts as a retainer for the wound body of the gasket and protects the gasket from corrosion and excessive heat.

The ring can be manufactured in the same materials as the above mentioned.

Class GRI/CRIR/CCR/CGI/SRI

Similar to the R class gaskets but with interior and exterior retaining rings. These gaskets are recommended for use in critical applications and for sizes from 600# and up.
